My Approach.

My approach to therapy is eclectic, allowing me to meet the unique needs and experiences of my clients. While my primary practice is grounded in an attachment-based psychodynamic approach—exploring how early childhood learning and experiences shape adult behaviors and defenses—I draw from a variety of evidence-based modalities to provide personalized and effective care.

These approaches include:

  • Attachment-Based Therapy to deepen understanding of relational patterns and foster secure connections.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors.
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD to address trauma and its impact on thought processes and emotional well-being.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to enhance emotional regulation, mindfulness, and interpersonal skills.
  • Mindfulness & Buddhist Psychology to cultivate present-moment awareness, self-acceptance, and inner peace.
  • Multicultural & Spiritual Counseling to honor the diverse identities, beliefs, and values that shape each client’s experience.
  • Self-Compassion Practices to foster kindness and understanding toward oneself in times of difficulty.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) to explore and harmonize the different parts of the self.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy to uncover unconscious patterns and develop greater self-awareness.

This integrative approach allows me to meet clients where they are, empowering them to explore their past, navigate the present, and create meaningful change for the future.

About me.

About Me

Hi! My name is Laura McArthur-Gupta (she/her), and I am passionate about supporting and empowering others on their journeys toward growth and healing. I am a Registered Psychotherapist (CRPO #10124) and a graduate student at the Counselling, Psychotherapy, and Spirituality program at Saint Paul University in Ottawa, Ontario.

My professional journey has been rich and diverse. Before pursuing graduate studies, I worked in various roles that shaped my approach to care, including:

  • Supporting young adults and their families as they navigated the challenges of addiction and mental health.
  • Advocating for compassionate, person-centered palliative care.
  • Enhancing team well-being and resilience within corporate culture.

When I’m not supporting others, I prioritize supporting myself. My self-care includes cuddling with my dog, diving into books and new ideas, rock climbing, gardening, and exploring woodworking projects.

I believe that both life and therapy are about balance—of understanding where we’ve been, embracing where we are, and building where we want to go.
